I am sad for the current political situation in Macedonia, but the fact is that I cannot see a constructive role for the UN mediator regarding the name issue, until a government is fair and democratically elected in Skopje, stated Matthew Nimetz, mediator in the Greek-Macedonian name issue.

"I believe the political leaders in Macedonia need to put the national interests first, above the traditional policies, and take into consideration what is best for the people," stated Nimetz for Voice of the People program aired at TV Sonce.

According to him, leaders must show maturity and wisdom and to move along a constructive path, the sooner the better.

"I truly hope that the current political crisis will end, and I believe that can only be done through parliamentary elections which fulfill the Przino Agreement criteria. After a government is democratically elected, I assure you my highest priority in the behalf of the United Nations will be to include the international parties to solve the name issue," said mediator Matthew Nimetz.
