Greece will not allow certain milieus to turn the Muslim minority in Thrace into a foreign policy instrument, instead of accepting its role of a bridge of friendship for the entire region, BTA news agency reads.
The warning was voiced by the top Greek diplomat, Nikos Kotzias, at the promotion of the new book by former minister and New Democracy MP, Evripidis Stylianidis - 'Thrace: the Next Step'. The event was also attended by Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Naftemporiki newspaper reports.
Nikos Kotzias underlined that Thrace is Greek, democratic and European and that Greece is a country of democracy, which respects, protects and develops the rights of special groups, such as the minorities.
The newspaper notes the statement of the Greek foreign minister was provoked by the announcement made by his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, shared on Twitter social network, which said he has held a meeting with a 'delegation of the Turkish minority in Thrace', pointing it had 'Turkey's strong support'.
