The European Union has presented its stance over the early parliamentary elections in Macedonia, saying it is necessary to meet three conditions for credible elections, MIA reports.

Following Friday's scheduling of the elections for June 5, European Commission Spokesperson Maja Kocijancic told MIA that EU has clearly expressed its position via statements by High Representative Federica Mogherini, Commissioner Johannes Hahn, Members of the European Parliament, as well as EU and US ambassadors to Skopje and their counterparts from Union member-states.

"Latest developments cast a doubt over the possibility of creating conditions for credible elections. I urge all stakeholders and political parties to work together in securing conditions for credible elections, in the interest of the country and its citizens. This includes updating of the voters list, balanced media reporting, as well as investigation and penalization of voter intimidation. We will continue to closely monitor this along with international partners such as ODIHR and continue to highlight any concern that we have", said Kocijancic.

In addition, she urged for ending violence at protests in Macedonia after President Ivanov's decision to pardon all those involved in the wiretapping affair. "I urge all citizens and parties to take part in democratic processes in a non-violent manner. This crisis can be solved through political means and return to dialogue", added Kocijancic.
