Macedonian Parliament Speaker Trajko Veljanoski announced that he has signed the decision to call for early elections on 5 June.

The elections are called following the dissolution of Parliament a week ago.

"Based on my constitutional and legal competencies, and in accordance with the decision to dissolve the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, today I have signed the decision on calling early elections for members of the Parliament, that will take place on June 5, 2016. This decision has been delivered to the State Election Commission, as the institution in charge of organizing the elections, to the Justice Ministry and to the Foreign Affairs Ministry", Speaker Veljanoski informed on Friday.

In his press release, the Speaker also said he expects that the elections will be held in line with democratic standards.

"I believe that all the entities involved in the electoral process will contribute so that the elections will take place in a calm and democratic environment and that each and every one of us will be able to exercise his or her right to vote on June 5, and to give the trust to those political groups he believes can bring stability and a brighter future", Veljanoski said.
