Cyprus Court issued an 8 day detention measure against the Egyptian who hijacked the EgyptAir plane on Tuesday and redirected it Cyprus by threatening to blow it up.
The public prosecutor Andreas Lambrianou stated that the suspect, identified as Seif Eddin Mustafa (59), has been charged with kidnapping, illegal possession of explosives and threats to commit violence, Tanjug reports.
Tuesday's dramatic crisis ended quietly when the kidnapper freed all 72 passengers and crew members.
Prosecutor Lambrianou said that the suspect asked the police "what is one to do when he has not seen his wife and children for 24 years, and the Egyptian government won't let him."
