The municipality of Kisela Voda, in central Skopje, gave 50 legalization documents to property owners at a ceremony on Monday, and informed that over 4,600 homes and businesses have been legalized so far. Kisela Voda Mayor Biljana Belicanec Aleksic said that the industrially developed municipality has received a total of 13,848 requests for legalization, with 1,733 coming during the extended deadline that expired at the end of March.

"About 4.200 of these requests were submitted without the spatial plan that is needed for them, and I would like to call on all applicants to have them completed and filed by the end of the year", Mayor Belicanec Aleksic said.

The process allows for full legalization of unlawfully built homes, offices and other structures, that were constructed before 2011, when the legalization law was first passed. It is estimated that a third of all housing stock in Macedonia has been built unlawfully, and the legalization process aims to help the owners receive full property titles.
