The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning presented Tuesday a project for an integrated and self-sustainable waste management system in Pelagonija, Southwest, Vardar and Skopje Region.

The 24-month project, launched last December, will be implemented by ENVIROPLAN.

“The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning is committed to solving waste-related issued across the country,” said Minister Nurhan Izairi presenting the project’s activities.

The project, he added, is being implemented within the EU’s Operational Program for Regional Development 2007 – 2013.

Martin Klaucke, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation, underscored the importance of adequate waste management.

“Poor waste management could lead to social and economic problems within a community… It is vital to leave behind a planet to future generations where there’s healthy life,” he said adding the EU would keep supporting efforts helping Macedonia to join the EU.

From December 2015 to December 2017, the EU-funded project – estimated at EUR 3.6 million will support the regional waste management authorities in preparation of planning and technical documentation for establishment of integrated self-sustainable waste management system in the four targeted regions.
