On 30.06.2016, from 4.30 pm to 02.00 am on the Bull. "Metropolitan Teodosij Gologanov", in front of the "Kuzman Josifovski Pitu" dormitory, a protest was held by a group of about 150 students who expressed their dissatisfaction with the manner of conducting the polls to elect a new President of the Student Parliament.
Student Parliament at the St. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje submitted a written notice to SVR that on 30.06.2016 in the period from 09.00 am to 4.00 pm, on 23 faculties within the University presidential elections on SPUKM will be held.
"However, due to the previously made public threats in the media and social networks for disrupting the electoral process and breaking boxes in the letter the parliament asked to provide the physical presence of police officers in front of the offices that are located on ul. "Metropolitan Teodisij Gologanov" and the faculties as well as the transport of the boxes from the faculties to the offices", it is said in a statement of the Ministry of Interior Affairs.
After completion of the voting process around 4.30 pm, SVR Skopje received a telephone notification by the official election commission of UKIM and a representative of the Student Parliament, that a group of students who were in front of the dormitory "Kuzman Josifovski Pitu" (where the offices of the Student Parliament are located), are impeding the entry of the election material for counting in the offices.
Police officers from PS UN Centre went on the scene and had a conversation with the applicants, who have been told that the police are taking measures and actions, if public order is disturbed or a crime has been committed, as well as in which cases police provides assistance after which the police officials left.
Meanwhile, the number of students increased to 150, with some of them started to knock on the door from the house and damaged it. After this, representatives of the student parliament again reported in SVR Skopje on three occasions (8.45, 9.00 and 9.30 pm) that they are afraid to go out because unknown persons shone lasers and threatened that if they would go out, they will be pelted.
After their report, preventively at the scene were deployed additional police forces in order to avoid disruption of the public order and peace on a larger scale and allow normal movement of students in front of and in the house. At that moment three students carrying ballot boxes arrived and by the same group of students gathered outside the building were insulted with abusive words, threatened and not allowed to enter the facility, the statement said.
Police officials preemptively and without the use of force were set at the entrance of the building in order for the three students to safely enter. When the three students with the ballot boxes arrived at the door of the building, there were already a group of students who have not permitted them to enter the building and they took away a box, and while they throw it on the ground they began to threaten. Some of the students who were placed behind the police cordon, attempted to break through, but by the same police officers are reserved to a safe distance and measures have been taken for distancing the persons who were at the entrance of the building.
Around 11.30 pm, people who have been in the office, half of them have tried to get out of the back of the dormitory, where they were met by a large group of people who began threatening them, after which the police officers placed a blockade to the group in order to facilitate the safe departure of the persons who were in the offices of the dormitory. After this, the attempt of the person K.S. and ten other students to get out of the back of the building, were intercepted by a group of students and K.S. was verbally insulted and at one point was hit with a hard object, which forced him, together with other students, to return to the building, and the group headed toward them and broke the back door.
Police officers placed a blockade in order to give the group a safe distance and allow students who were in the building to leave. After leaving the object, the present students who were protesting stayed in front of the building until 02.00 am after which they left.
