Poland will always support Macedonia's integration processes and continue to champion NATO open door policy, Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz said at a meeting Thursday in Warsaw with his Macedonian counterpart Zoran Jolevski.
Poland believes that the accession of Western Balkan countries to the EU and NATO is a prerequisite for the stability of the region and Europe.
Jolevski on his part extended gratitude for Poland's support of Macedonia's aspirations to join NATO, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release. Macedonia and Poland have been nourishing excellent cooperation in the sphere of defense, Jolevski said, expressing belief in official Warsaw's support for turning 'our strategic goal into reality' at the forthcoming NATO summit.
Jolevski also briefed Macierewicz on developments in the region and efforts for coping with the migrant crisis. Macedonia's successful response to the migrant crisis is yet another indicator that the country deserves an invitation for NATO membership at the upcoming summit and that it is a credible partner of the international community in dealing with challenges, Jolevski said.
