As of Tuesday, 500 jobless people that have graduated from high school or university have the chance to apply for internship in private companies.

"The internship measure offers a chance to young unemployed individuals to acquire practical experience in private companies in a period of 3 to 6 months. The call is being opened for 500 unemployed people and all interested companies are invited to take part," Deputy Labour Minister Dime Spasov said Tuesday, while visiting a private company where so far several people have completed internships.

Over 2,500 young people, of whom 1,315 people are now employed, have been hired through the measure, he stated.

Vlatko Popovski, director of the Employment Service Agency, said companies were free to select people they deemed were adequate.

"I hope the measure will encourage many companies to open their doors and to give young people the opportunity to learn practical things since our educational system offers quite enough theory, but very little practice," Popovski stressed.

In 2015, out of 980 interns, 208 are now employed. The companies are obliged to cover daily costs for the interns.
