Maja Gojkovic of the Serbian Progressive Party, headed by Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic was elected the president of the Serbian parliament on Monday, TASS news agency reports.
Of the 233 MPs present at the vote, 159 cast their ballots for Gojkovic.
She was heading the Serbian parliament during its previous composition as well. The new parliament was formed following the early general elections that were held on April 24.
The parliament speaker was expected to be elected at its first session held on June 3. But the MPs, following a 10-hour debate, managed only to coordinate the legislature's presidential nomination.
The coalition dubbed 'Serbia Wins', with Vucic's party on its head, won the absolute majority of 131 lawmakers at the 250-seat assembly.
