Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias will likely be met by protesters during his visit to Albania on Monday, MIA reports. The Chameria association, which supports rights of Albanians living in north-western Greece, will gather in front of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in protest against Greece's refusal to give minority rights to Albanians.
"The Greek Foreign Ministry persists on its absurd position that there is no Cham issue. We will protest to say that 'I'm an Albanian from Chameria, and I exist'", the organization announced.
Greece insists that Chams or Albanians expelled from Greece, were Nazi collaborators who retreated with the occupying forces in World War Two. The country also refuses to acknowledge the minority status of remaining Albanians in Greece.
Albania demands recognition of its minority in Greece and return of property confiscated from those that were expelled. The two countries are also disputing their maritime border, with possible oil and gas reserves at stake.
