The players of Vardar football team were attacked by supporters of the Skupi team during a game that took place at the Cair stadium in Skopje on Sunday night.
The incident occurred when the Vardar players started to celebrate their 0:1 victory at the middle of the field.
At one moment, the Skupi supporters started to jump over the fence, entered the field, and went into a fierce fight with the football players, including Goran Popov, Tomce Pacovski, Damir Kojasevic, Goran Popov and coach Goce Sedloski. Montenegrin international player suffered the most in the battle, as he was hit by one of the supporters and fell onto the ground.
In order to protect himself, Pacovski hit one of the supporters with his football boot and tried to defense his teammates from further blows.
The match itself was held under a tense atmosphere, as Goran Popov was hit by a glass bottle near the throw-line.
Officials with the Interior Ministry say the fight and the violence that had occurred at the Cair stadium have not been reported, but added that an incident involving several lit torches was reported at the Bit Pazar police station.
The police are working on identifying the individuals who committed the offense and behaved inappropriately on the sport field.
The Skupi players and the stadium management should be praised for their intervention, as they prevented the incident from developing into a further and larger problem, and for not allowing the audience to storm into the field.
