It is in the interest of Macedonia the political crisis to be resolved since the political climate surely affects the number of tourists who are mulling whether to spend their summer holidays in Ohrid, Dutch Ambassador Willem Wouter Plomp said Thursday.

While paying a working visit to Ohrid, Ambassador Plomp met with the town mayor Nikola Bakraceski and with representatives of Ohrid’s tourism sector.

“In the talks held with tourism professionals, I was told that this year marks a certain decrease in the number of travel arrangements. But I’m confident that the number will rise again once the political leaders in Skopje find a solution to the crisis. Stable political climate and sustainable solution deemed satisfactory by the Macedonian voters is in the interest of Macedonia, but also in the interest of the Netherlands,” Plompt told reporters.

Moreover, the Ambassador was joined by mayor Bakraceski to lay flowers on the monument of the Dutch writer and journalist A. den Doolaard located in downtown Ohrid.

"A. den Doolaard is perhaps the biggest ambassador of Macedonia to the Netherlands and even elsewhere in Western Europe. Owing to his stay immortalized in his works, tourists from the Netherlands are flooding in to Ohrid nowadays,” Ambassador Plomp stated.
