Macedonia's Chamber of Commerce Asks for Changes in Bylaws That Prevent Import of Scrap Metals

The Chamber of Commerce (SKM) has urged changes in rules regulating trading with waste, to allow easier importation of scrap metals.

"Companies that deal with scrap metals and use them as their basic raw material have seen production largely reduced because of the unfavorable regulations. Under the current conditions, they are not able to plan their production activities because they can't count on reliable supply of raw materials", SKM writes in its press release.

Rules on import and transit of waste materials often define scrap metal as waste and not as raw material, SKM informs, making it harder to have it imported. "We appeal to the institutions in charge to make the necessary changes as soon as possible. The laws have been changed, but bylaws that would allow their implementation have still not been changed", SKM adds.
