Turkey's EU Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavushoglu stated Wednesday that Turkey is only a step away from fulfilling all the conditions for obtaining EU visa liberalization for its citizens, including the change of its passports.
His statement comes before Wednesday's decision of the European Commission about Turkey's visa liberalization.
Turkey was supposed to fulfill 72 conditions set by the EU, so its citizens would be able to travel to the EU visa-free over the summer. According to EU assessments, the country fulfilled 62 conditions, Deutsche Welle's analysis stated.
The European Commission is supposed to announce on Wednesday afternoon whether it will recomend the abolition of visas for Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia and Kosovo.
