Skopje Protests: Detained Persons Spend Night at Police Stations

The thirteen arrested individuals following Wednesday night's protests in Skopje are still kept at the police stations in the capital and they are still being questioned.

The Interior Ministry's sector in Skopje said the offense that they will be charged of will be determined once the interrogations end.

One journalist and one photo reporter were also injured in the clashes that occurred between angry protesters and members of the special police units, which took place in front of the president people's office in downtown Skopje.

The demonstrators demolished the president's office premises and also damaged the building housing the Justice Ministry.

Citizens were protesting as a sign of revolt following the chief of state's decision to introduce a general halt of all legal procedures launched against politicians and their associates related tot he wiretapping operations and the political crisis.

Previously, the demonstrators gathered in front of the parliament building, and the police prevented them from heading toward the VMRO-DPMNE headquarters. They were demanding the resignation of President Ivanov, stopping the activities linked to holding parliamentary elections on June 5 and the establishment of an expert government that would be tasked with organizing fair, democratic and credible elections.

The protest kicked off at 6:00 pm in front of the premises occupied by the Special Prosecutor's Office, as a sign of support of the authority's work, and then continued in front of the presidential office and then the Assembly. 

The protests that were organized by the civil initiative 'I Protest' will continue in the following days at 6:00 pm.
