The Chief of the Macedonian Army (ARM) General Staff, Lieutenant General Metodija Velickovski yesterday held an official meeting in London with General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter, Chief of the General Staff of the United Kingdom.

The meeting focused on the migrant crisis and security threats to SEE countries, ways for bolstering bilateral cooperation by organizing a joint training and using ARM’s capacities, namely Krivolak military camp, and on the possibility of joint participation in UN-led international missions, the ARM General Staff said Wednesday in a press release.

General Velickovski thanked for the logistical support provided by the UK to Macedonia’s contingent when servicemen of the two armies were part of the ISAF mission.

“In the mission, we had a unique chance to present our armed forces and our country as a trustworthy partner,” stated the press release.

The interlocutors urged the strategic partnership between the UK and Macedonia to be strengthened especially in times of terrorist threats and the migrant crisis, posing a serious threat to destabilizing all the countries in Europe.

General Sir Nicholas Carter expressed gratitude to ARM for its contribution to the NATO-led missions and its role in dealing with the migrant crisis.

In London, General Velickovski also met with the Macedonian Ambassador to the UK Jovan Donev, to discuss the current security situation and the forthcoming NATO summit in Warsaw.

During its stay in the United Kingdom, an army delegation will visit the Defence Academy of the UK at Shrivenham and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
