Macedonia is an honorary participating country at the 14th Sharjah Heritage Day in the United Arab Emirates from April 7 to April 25, where the country's cultural heritage will be presented through a Macedonian ethno village, the Ministry of Culture says Friday.

The event was opened on Thursday evening with a concert of the Tanec ensemble for folk dances and songs, whose performance received a standing ovation. The Tanec ensemble, considered a symbol of Macedonian folklore, tradition and culture for over six decades, is expected to give several concerts at the popular festival so as to present Macedonia’s rich cultural heritage. Its representation at the festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture.

Furthermore, craftsmen at the Macedonian ethno village are presenting their unique handmade works. Also, nine chefs are cooking traditional Macedonian cuisine.

The event is covered by many media in the region, including the newspapers Khaleej Times, Gulf News, Emarat Alyoum, Sharjah TV, Dubai7TV, CNBC Arabia and CATV, a Chinabased TV station airing programs from the United Arab Emirates for billion viewers in China.

The Sheikh, who was officially invited to visit Macedonia, was presented with traditional gifts from Macedonia, including a genuine carved wooden work, the press release read.

Macedonia’s participation in the festival was agreed last year at a meeting by Culture Minister Elizabeta KanceskaMilevska and the Director of the Sharjah Institute of Cultural Heritage, Abdulaziz Al Musallam. The interlocutors discussed ways to boost cultural cooperation between the countries, which have been fostering diplomatic relations for two decades.
