Dance month has officially begun with Wednesday's ceremonial opening in Macedonian National Theater. At the start of it, the Menada award was given for prime achievements in the dancing sphere.
This year the award went to artist Milko Sparemblek, who has been director of Metropolitan Ballet in New York. The award was given to him by art director of the festival, Risima Risimkin.

Skopje Dance Theater has performed "Stepping on the Ground" on the first day of dance month. There were three different choreographies - "Whoever it is" by Andrijana Andreeva, "Find somebody..." by Matea Kiselicka, and "The Silence of the Bees" by Dutch guest choreographer Joan van der Mast, with music by Sara Zamboni, an Italian composer making new music for this piece.

Apart from capital Skopje, Dance Fest will also take place in Veles and Bitola, and will end April 29. This year's motto is "Let's Dance! Be Different", as a tribute to David Bowie.
