
Macedonia's President Gjorge Ivanov, during his working visit to Turkey, held a meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, with whom he exchanged opinions on several current topics of mutual interest.
President Ivanov has introduced Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew with the current events relating to the Macedonian Orthodox Church - Ohrid Archbishopric, stressing that all the differences and disputes should be overcome through dialogue, in the spirit of Christianity and mutual respect and understanding, the presidential cabinet said in a press release.
In that sense, the Macedonian leader pointed that he encouraged and expected a dialogue to be established between the Macedonian and Serbian Orthodox Churches, pointing the talks should intensify, having under consideration the realistic situation, as well as the hopes and the striving of the believers in the two countries.
President Ivanov used the opportunity to congratulate Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for his initiatives, activities and efforts put to secure greater unity in the Orthodox world and to reconcile Christianity with other religions, and he also welcomed his meetings with Pope Francis and other religious leaders.
"When the entire world is faced with difficult challenges, joint strong dedication and commitment is needed to defend the Christian values and principles, which we push to share in the spirit of dialogue and mutual respect," the Macedonian chief of state scored.
Expressing his content with the established relations characterized by friendship and mutual understanding, Ivanov said the meetings with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew are always marked by openness, honesty and reciprocal esteem.
