State Secretary at the Secretariat for European Affairs in the Government of Macedonia, Ana Blazeska, on Friday held meetings with representatives of the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin.
At the meetings with Ernst Reihl, special envoy of Germany to Eastern Europe, Macedonia and Turkey and Peter Spasek, a deputy director of the Directorate for EU in the German Foreign Ministry, they discussed the several topics in terms of the bilateral relations between the two countries as well as the steps that Macedonia should take in the coming period in order to accelerate out of the political crisis.
"Help yourselves, so we can help you on the road to the EU" is the central message of the official Berlin. Macedonia is expected a rapid progress in the two main priorities: the electoral reform (filtering the electoral roll) and the implementation of reforms in the media which, according to Berlin, should be done promptly and efficiently in the shortest possible time.
The European Union after priorities such as conducting credible elections in the country are completed, expects that the country should continue the deeply rooted path to the EU.
At the meeting the interlocutors also discussed about the collapse of the support that the European Union has in Macedonia, which according to the German government is not a serious problem because more than 70% of support that exists in Macedonia is among the highest in Europe and is a sign that the country despite the fall, should not be concerned about Europe's future. The impact of the political crisis and information on the EU that were channeled through the debate on the UK referendum on leaving the EU are regarded as the main reasons for the fall in the support for the EU membership.
