Greece has decided to help unaccompanied migrant children. The country will provide them with food, shelter and education for as long as they stay in Greece, and they will be accommodated in residential buildings in Thessaloniki and Serres. This plan was an initiative from alternative minister of social solidarity Theano Fotiou, and it was announced on Tuesday.
The Labor Ministry signed a memorandum with the SOS children villages and the Center for Social Affairs so proper living conditions and protection of 40 children, whose accommodation requests are being reviewed, can be provided. The children will live in hostels provided by the Center, while the villages will contribute through donations and procure payments for the hostel employees.
The program will start its realization immediately and it will last for 6 months, with a possibility for a 6 month extension.
