
The Skopje Dance Theater will premiere its "Stepping on the Ground" performance to open the 2016 Dance Fest at the Macedonian National Theater on Wednesday.
The festival, that will see performance throughout the month, will be held in Skopje, Bitola and Veles.
This premiere is prepared to mark the five-year anniversary of the contemporary dance group, and will feature three choreographies prepared by Andrijana Andreeva, Matea Kiselicki and Joan van der Mast, according to the music by Italian author Sara Zamboni.
The performance will then be held in Veles on April 9, and Bitola on April 25. Another premiere by the same group, "A Wonderful World", will also be performed at the three theaters.
World renowned artist Milko Sparemblek will receive the "Menada" Award for outstanding contribution to dance art at the opening of the 2016 Dance Fest.
The program for the festival will include performances from groups from Izmir, Riga, Paris and Beijing.
The Izmir State Opera and Ballet will perform on April 11 and the ARA dance group from Riga is set to perform the following day.
On April 23, the Beijing Nine Contemporary Dance Company will perform its "Trans la valo" show.
The festival will also have an open stage on April 7 for dance groups from throughout Macedonia, and will present awards to the youngest participants.
On April 24, the groups will hold a street parade in the capital Skopje. The festival is dedicated to David Bowie, and its logo for the year is "Let's Dance! Be Different!"
