The Ministry of Culture promoted Tuesday the final nine books of the project on translation of Macedonian classics into six foreign languages.
The project offers a condensed selection of the best Macedonian literary works that have been published integrally as part of the edition “135 Volumes of Macedonian Literature”, which have been also translated into English.
The collection of works encompass seven literary forms, including poetry, novels, short stories, plays, essays, literary reviews and children’s books, and they have been translated into French, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese.
The collections contain works written in the 19th century until present day. Speaking at the promotion, Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said a total of 48 works had been published divided into seven anthologies in eight volumes (the anthology on novel is made up of two volumes), written by 200 Macedonian writers.
“All the anthologies and the 48 works capturing the development of Macedonia’s literature and culture, will be distributed to libraries around the world, to embassies in the countries where the languages in which these works have been translated are spoken, while also being part of notable representation of Macedonian literary works at fairs and events across the globe,” stated Kanceska-Milevska.
Branko Cvetkoski, promoter and one of the seven authors selecting the works, called the project ‘a magnificent six-language world premiere of the literature of Macedonia.’
The project was implemented by the St. Clement of Ohrid National and University Library in Skopje. Last week, the capital project “Stars of World Literature”, run by the government and the Ministry of Culture, was wrapped up with all of the 560 books of the edition being promoted.
