German Chancellor Angela Merkel one day before the historic referendum on cessation of membership of Great Britain in the European Union, said she hoped for the stay of London in the European Union, MIA reports from Berlin.
Chancellor is optimistic that British voters would choose the option of staying in the EU.
"Of course I want the United Kingdom to remain in the European Union, but that decision is on the British citizens", Merkel said after a meeting with the Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo in Berlin.
In an effort not to be understood that she interferes in the internal decisions of Great Britain, Merkel has long refrained from commenting on the referendum in Britain. Two weeks ago she told the British people that if they decide to leave the EU, much harder they will achieve their commercial and other interests because they will not be at the table when decisions would be made.
