The State Election Commission (SEC) will do everything in their power so that citizens can have confidence in the Electoral Roll, and if necessary it will revise the Electoral Roll again, SEC member Subhi Jakupi said. He said that SEC is ready to review all remarks, but that it has to get clear directions from the parties so it does not have to deal with guesswork.
"We were supposed to have a meeting with the political parties, put it was postponed due to work group talks. We are ready to hear their suggestions, but we cannot base our work on assumptions. We need to definitely know which voters are suspicious. In any case, SEC is ready to carry out another Electoral Roll checkup if necessary", Jakupi said for Telegraph.mk.
Before the election postponement, with a majority of votes the SEC decided that the electoral roll is purged and ready for elections.
But, SDSM keeps claiming that the electoral roll is not purged and that it contains so-called phantom voters. The field checkup and the checkup based on 10 databases showed that there are no suspicious voters.
The opposition is conditioning its participation in elections with the purge of the Electoral Roll. For this reason, VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski called on the SEC Monday to carry out a checkup that suits the standards of SDSM.
"I publicly call on SEC members to do a voter checkup according to SDSM standards and to do it as soon as possible. I know that all the checkups have been done correctly but in order to appease SDSM, another checkup should be done through a method of their choice, even though the previous checkup methods were accepted by SDSM, For the media, during the election period we adopted legal amendments that were not disputed by SDSM, so this does not threaten elections.
