Unemployment in Macedonia Drops to 24.5 Percent, Lowest in History

According to the latest data of the State Statistical Office of Macedonia, the unemployment rate of 24.5 percent in the first quarter in 2016 has been the lowest in the history.

The continuous drop of the number of unemployed has amounted to 31,000 persons in Q1, and is a only a sequel of the decreasing unemployment which was 38 percent in 2006, and is now 24.5 percent.

This drop of unemployment has been reflected by decreasing the number of unemployed persons in all regions and municipalities in the country. The data for unemployed persons in the majority of the municipalities in the country in 2006 compared to the number of unemployed in 2016.

It is evident that the drastic drop of the number of unemployed in all region in the country which amounts to about 50 percent and of great significance for the local economic development of the municipalities, as well as the family budgets of tens of thousands of families.

"A strategic goal of this Government is to reduce unemployment, thus paying attention to realize all these policies all over the country, providing equal regional approach and reducing the unemployment in all regions. That is why the projects we realize, the foreign investors we attract, the capital investments we make we distribute in all regions of the country, thus giving a chance and opportunities to open new jobs for the entire nation. The data shows that we have a decrease of unemployment in all Macedonian cities and villages, which is great, and the fact that during this Government's mandate the unemployment rate has dropped from 38 percent to 24.5 percent is the best proof that the approach we apply gives the best results," Government spokesperson Aleksandar Gjorgjiev said.
