Construction crews working on the Recani dam on Orizarska river near Kocani have completed the road leading to the top site of the future dam, allowing them to begin the landfill. Five companies are in competition to build the large dam planned to create an artificial lake with 20 million cubic meters of water, and to supply Kocani, Vinica, Zrnovci, Cesinovo and Oblesevo with water.
The Recani dam will also allow construction of three small electric hydro plants. Water from the lake will be used to irrigate 2.500 hectares of arable land. Kocani Mayor Ratko Dimitrovski says that work on expropriating privately owned land at the site of the dam and the future lake is nearly complete.
