VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski has appeared before the Criminal Court, pointing that the Special Prosecutor's Office and Zoran Zaev are staging a political pursuit that will not be successful, Telegraf.mk reads.
For the experts, the conduct of Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva is scandalous. Analysts have said in comments for Kurir.mk news site, that Janeva's work is not based on evidence, arguments and laws, but on party accusations and directions. It has been proven that her allegations are unfounded and that there is no proof of the accusations she has charged the VMRO-DPMNE high officials with. After they have answered to the court yesterday [Friday], it has said there are no grounds for issuing precaution measures.
University Professor Tanja Karakamiseva-Jovanovska has told Kurir.mk that the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPO) has been set up as a state organ which instead of basing its accusations or doubts on solid evidence, it is expected to create real soap operas on alleged, often invented indications that cannot serve as legal grounds for any sustained indictment.
"It is noticeable that since the very start of the SPO's work, this body, which was unconstitutionally embedded in the country's constitutional order, instead of working in line with the laws, it has assumed the role of a spokesperson and executioner of SDSM's policies of persecution. Let us remind ourselves that this body's recent theatrical and Hollywood-like press conferences are not at all in line with what is considered to be a regular and standardized work method and presentation of prosecutors' cases. Since the very start, it was clear that the SPO was introduced in the system with the sole purpose of serving as a political executor of the leading men in VMRO-DPMNE. With its discrediting strategy aimed against VMRO-DPMNE, the SPO has been placed as a state body that instead of basing its accusations or doubts on solid evidence, it is expected to create real soap operas on alleged, often invented indications that cannot serve as legal grounds for any sustained indictment," she said.
This single-sided feature of the SPO does not allow the expectancy that this authority could be capable of acting in accordance with the principles on legality, presumption of innocence, autonomy and independence from the "SDSM's and foreign ambassadors' strain on the 'special' prosecutors' necks".
