
According to the State Statistical Office data, there were 20,461 deaths in the Republic of Macedonia in 2015, which represents an increase of 3.8 percent compared to the previous year.
The structure by sex shows higher male participation, 10,562 or 51.6 percent of the total number of deaths. The number of infant deaths was 198. Participation of infant deaths in the total number of deaths was 1.0 percent (per 100 deaths).
By months, most deaths (2,105) were registered in January. The average death age was 70.4 years for males and 75.1 years for females, which means that women outlive men by 4.7 years on average.
Like the previous years, by ICD-10, most deaths were due to cardio vascular diseases (I00-I99), making up 58.4 percent of the total number of deaths, followed by neoplasms (C00-D48) with 18.3 percent, while 4.3 percent of deaths were due to endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases (E00-E90), 3.7 percent were cases where death occurred due to respiratory system diseases (J00- J99), etc.
