Statistics: Consumer and Retail Price Index in Macedonia Decreased in 2016

According to the data of the State Statistical Office of Macedonia, the Consumer Price Index in the country in May 2016, compared with the previous month, was 100.5, while the Retail Price Index was 100.3.

The increase in the Consumer Price Index by 0.5 percent in May 2016, in comparison with the previous month, is a result of the higher indices of potatoes by 14.7 percent, fresh or chilled fruit by 9.1 percent, fresh or chilled vegetables other than potatoes by 6.6 percent, other bakery products by 1.4 percent, canned fruit by 0.6 percent, flours and other cereals and alcoholic beverages by 0.5 percent, frozen fruit, other food products by 0.3 percent and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.2 percent.

In May 2016, there was also an increase of the indices of hospital services by 14.6 percent, motor cycles by 6.9 percent, liquid fuels for household by 5.7 percent, passenger transport by air by 2.2 percent, liquid fuels and lubricants for household by 1.8 percent, footwear by 1.7 percent, carpets and other floor coverings by 0.9 percent, household furniture by 0.6 percent, information processing equipment by 0.5 percent, clothing, materials for maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 0.3 percent, services for maintenance and repair of the dwelling and repair of household appliances by 0.2 percent.

A decrease in the Consumer Price Index in May 2016, in comparison with the previous month, was registered in eggs by 1.2 percent, oils and fats by 0.5 percent, dried fruit and nuts and dried vegetables by 0.4 percent, edible offal by 0.3 percent, meat, yoghurt and cheese and curd by 0.2 percent.

In May, there was also a decrease of the indices of accommodation services by 6.9 percent, gas for household by 4.9 percent, package holidays by 4.7 percent, cleaning and maintenance products for the dwelling by 1.4 percent, small electric household appliances by 0.7 percent, medicines by 0.6 percent, major household appliances by 0.5 percent, bicycles by 0.4 percent, solid fuels, tools for equipment for house and garden by 0.3 percent and personal care articles and health by 0.2 percent.

The Consumer Price Index in May 2016, in comparison with May 2015, registered a decrease by 0.7 percent, while the Retail Price Index decreased by 1.0 percent.
