Professors of the Faculty of Economy of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (UKIM) have demanded money and sexual favors from students in exchange for higher grades, Telegraf.mk has learnt.

Around 6 professors, one assistant professor, and the cafeteria manager of the Economy Faculty have been suspected for corruption.

"There are 8 suspects, six of whom are university professors, one assistant professor, and one cafeteria manager of the university campus. They are suspected of several counts, a decision upon which will be brought after the investigation is completed. Apart from taking bribery, there is a suspicion that some of the professors have demanded sexual favors from the students, in order for them to pass an exam," informed the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office for organized crime and corruption.

The prosecution said that during the office raid on Monday, one professor was caught taking EUR 1,000 bribe, while investigators have obtained evidence for the remaining suspects in the past period.

The case is currently in a pre-indictment stage. After the criminal charge is filed against the suspects, the public prosecutor in charge will decide whether detention measure, or other measures are needed.

A police operation was carried out at the UKIM university campus on Monday, whereas the Interior Ministry announced it will hold a press conference the following day.
