Another surgery will be performed on little Eli, who has been treated for her rare disease in a hospital in the US. This is a second intervention for the 8-year-old girl in six months. The Health Insurance Fund of Macedonia (FZOM) has told Telegraf.mk that the intervention will be covered by the Fund. FZOM also covered the expenses for the previous surgery, as well as the post-operation stay at the hospital.
After several surgeries performed in Macedonia, as well as two other countries, after 8 years spent in hospital, American doctors gave new hope to Eli's family that she can recover from this rare disease, causing her intestinal obstruction. This intervention should be her last, and Eli's condition endangering her life should be normalized.
Citizens have organized a number of events raising funds for Eli's stay in the USA, which was extended for several more months unplanned.
Eli feels good after the January surgery, and is under constant doctor surveillance, thus she must stay near the hospital with her family until doctors confirm she can go home.
