The committee set to discuss the proposal for impeachment of President Gjorge Ivanov meets on Monday to prepare its report, that will be present at the Parliament.
This is the committee's third and likely final hearing, that was formed after the opposition SDSM party demanded President Ivanov's impeachemnt, in relation to the pardons he granted to 56 politicians and their associates in mid-April.
During the debate, SDSM representatives requested that President Ivanov attends the hearings, a proposal that was not supported by the majority VMRO-DPMNE party.
SDSM claims that Ivanov, with his general abolition decision, violated the Constitution, while VMRO-DPMNE responded by saying it does not agree with his move, but that it was legal and in accordance with the Constitution.
After Parliament amended the Law on Pardons, President Ivanov revoked 22 of the pardons that covered politicians, leaving in place the pardons for persons who are not politically active.
A two-third majority is needed in Parliament, and then in the Constitutional Court, to impeach the President.
VMRO-DPMNE announced they will not support the proposal, making it likely that it will not be approved in Parliament.
