The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe concluded that Macedonia has fully executed the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 56 verdicts. MIA correspondent from Strasbourg reports that this closes about half of all the cases where verdict has been reached with regard to Macedonia.

In February, the Council of Europe also decided that 36 earlier decisions have been implemented. Kostadin Bogdanov, the Macedonian representative before the court, told MIA that Macedonia has taken steps to fully execute the decisions, including paying damages, or put an end to the noted violations of the European Convention on Human Rights. These included cases filed over unreasonably long court proceedings in Macedonia. Such future cases have been resolved with the option that parties can seek remedy before the Macedonian Supreme Court.

Macedonian Ambassador to the Council of Europe Petar Pop Arsov said that Macedonia is one of the most consistent countries when it comes to implementing ECHR decisions. "Macedonia is in favor of full, efficient and swift implementation of decisions by the ECHR, and this latest decision shows the efforts we have put in to do so on our part. Out of the 120 verdicts that were due to be implemented in 2014, only 55 remain.
