The Cooperation and Friendship Agreement between Macedonia and Bulgaria could be signed some time later this year, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov told reporters in Sofia.

Ivanov, who is taking part in the SEECP summit of heads of state and government in Sofia on Wednesday, has held talks with his Bulgarian counterpart Rosen Plevneliev and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

Amongst other things, the meetings focused on the bilateral treaty, being discussed by working groups, the migrant crisis, developments in the region, etc.

"Both (President) Plevneliev and (PM) Borissov have expressed satisfaction with the fact that they were informed by the foreign ministers that solutions had been found over some formulations in the text. Both of them were optimistic that since these solutions had been found, the text now is set to be aligned by the two parties. They expressed optimism that the agreement can be concluded and signed by the end of this year," President Ivanov stated, saying the agreement could serve in the interest of Macedonia as an EU candidate country.
