Bulgaria Reaffirms Its Support for Macedonia's EU and NATO Integration

During Wedneday's meeting of Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov, the former reaffirmed Bulgaria's support for Macedonia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Both politicians called for swift conclusion of the negotiations on the bilateral good neighborly relations agreement, Borisov's cabinet informs.

"We are convinced that the future of all countries from the Western Balkans lies with the EU. We reaffirm the readiness of Bulgaria to discuss and provide expert assistance to Macedonia on concrete issues related to the Bulgarian experience in order to achieve considerable progress on the road of Macedonia's membership to the EU and NATO," Borisov said.

According his cabinet's press release, Borisov and Ivanov called for swift conclusion of negotiations on the bilateral agreement on good neighborly relations, which as it reads: 'will give new impetus to the European integration of Macedonia'.

During the meeting, Borisov expressed concern about the latest developments in Macedonia and underlined that the ongoing political crisis in Macedonia could be resolved only through dialogue between all political parties, by carrying out the necessary reforms in the interest of all citizens and respecting the agreements.

Ivanov and Borisov also discussed issues concerning the migrant crisis, the Near East and the Western Balkans integration.

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov is to take part Wednesday at the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the South-­East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in Sofia, which is held in the frames of the SEECP Bulgarian Chairmanship­-in­-Office.
