The rural region of Mariovo in southern Macedonia hosts its 32nd Mariovo-Meglen cultural meetings, with guests from its neighboring region now in Greece. Meetings are held in the village of Vitoliste, at the St. Ilija monastery, and participants present the cultural heritage of the region.
"We have people coming from Prilep and from all over Macedonia, to see the music groups. We are working to keep Mariovo and Meglen regions together, to give a chance to their immigrants to meet again and to get to know their birthplaces better", said Snezana Risteska, from the Prilep town hall.
Groups from Krusevo, Kavadarci and Skopje will open this year's event. Prilep mayor Marjan Risteski said that festival is also a way to promote Mariovo as the environmentally cleanest part of Macedonia. The festival includes a biking competition, outdoor projection of short films and a joint lunch at the monastery.
