A large-scale fire has burned a house to the ground on Thursday evening in the old part of Veles, Telegraf.mk reports.

It was owned by Nikolce Aleksandrov, who lived there alone, after his parents had died eight years ago. Nikolce is an orphan who has now been left on the streets after the blazes had destroyed everything he owned.

"I wasn't at home when the fire occurred. I was across the street and saw the roof of my house on fire. I ran there but nothing could be saved, everything I use to have was burnt," says Nikolce aged 22.

The fire 'swallowed' the furniture, the appliances, the documents and all the money he had. Now he is left only with the clothes he had on. When he saw his house was burning, he suffered a shock, which prompted the ambulance to intervene. After he had taken the necessary medications, Nikolce spent the night with friends.

The neighbors were the first ones to provide him with help.

"Around 9:30 pm I heard a sound as if hail was falling down on the roof. We went outside to see what was going on and we saw the neighbor's house on fire. We called the fire department immediately. Until they arrived, we organized ourselves and started using hoes to put the fire down. But the pressure dropped and everything was made difficult," the neighbors said.

Later, when the Veles firefighters arrived they needed to deploy three vehicles to extinguish the blazes.

On Friday afternoon, Nikolce was at the yard of his former house, together with his legal guardian, looking to see if something could be salvaged. Instead, he found only ashes. In the coming period he will be accommodated with his custodian, with the hope that the awareness of the humane citizens will raise and he will have roof over his head soon.
