'Tikves' the largest winery in Macedonia, hosted a conference in Skopje to discuss the health effects of wine consumption.
Sabina Passamonti, a professor at the Trieste Universita degli Studi, said that wine is rich with bioactive substances and can have positive effects, if used in moderation.
"Moderate consumption of wine, up to two glasses per day, helps reduce the risk of heart disease", said Passamonti.
Klement Lisjak from the Slovenian Agricultural Faculty, added that Macedonian wines, given the way they are produced, can be considered organic products.
"Due to the favorable climate, vineyards in Macedonia are sprayed with pesticides between three and five times, which is not the case in other countries. In Slovenia, they are sprayed between 10 and 15 times, sometimes even more often. And yet, you use materials that are not harmful to either the wine, or the health of the customers", said Lisjak.
