The Macedonian Customs Bureau completed its European Union supported twinning project which eases transit of goods with the EU and Turkey through the convention for joint transit procedures. The project, implemented since September 2014, supported by EUR 900.000 from the EU funds, helped reduce the paperwork needed for transit of goods.
"Goods can now move with only one document, and there is no need to stop at all borders, to issue new documents or look for new guarantees. This is of major support to forwarders, transportation companies and licensed economic operators", said Boris Kastelic, from the Slovenian financial Administration. Other Slovenian experts that helped with the twinning project say that Macedonian legislation on the customs is largely in line with that of the European Union and that some amendments will be needed in the future, but overall the service offered to forwarders is at the level seen in the EU.
The head of the Macedonian Customs Bureau Natasa Radevska Krstevska said that during the project, 30 Slovenian experts held nearly 90 workshops for Macedonian customs officers. This allowed to simplify many procedures, and move many more in electronic form.
