An unusual package which was the reason for the evacuation of Manchester United's football stadium (Old Trafford) on Sunday was identified as a training device, police have said, according to Euronews.
The discovery of the package forced the club's match against Bournemouth, part of England's Premier League, to cancel it.
It is believed the apparatus which was earlier described as 'lifelike but not viable' had been accidentally left there by a private company during a training exercise.
The stadium, with capacity of seating seventy five thousand people, was evacuated twenty minutes before the game started.
Greater Manchester's Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd called the situation 'unacceptable' and a 'fiasco', as supporters were put in danger as evacuating thousands of people is nontheless a risky endavor.
The Premier League match has been rescheduled for Tuesday.
Manchester United will be refunding all tickets and allowing ticket holders from both clubs in for free on Tuesday night. Manchester United season ticket holders will also be given a credit.
It is estimated this gesture will cost the football club some EUR 3.8. million.
