
Belgian air force will carry out airstrikes on positions of the Islamic State in Syria from July 1, using six F16 fighter jets, Belgian media reported Friday.
Belgium, as a part of a US-led coalition, has been conducting airstrikes against IS militants in Iraq since the summer of 2014.
According to Le Soir newspaper, the decision to expand the geography of operations to Syria was made by the Belgian authorities. They have also prolonged the participation of the Belgian air force in operation in Iraq.
In early March, Belgian media reported that Washington has formally requested Belgium on the participation in the airstrikes on the positions of IS in Syria.
