The start of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Washington, where he is attending the nuclear security summit, was marked by tensions because his bodyguards clashed with reporters.
The bodyguards tried to bar a journalist from the Brookings Institution where Erdogan was supposed to hold a speech.
The institute's security reacted and asked Erdogan's bodyguards to leave the premises.
Previously, Turkish officials barred journalist Adem Arslan, who works for opposition media, to enter the institute.
Erdogan is currently facing harsh criticism for limiting the freedom of speech and media freedom in Turkey.
