Around two per cent of the global gross domestic product is used for bribes, the Directorate-General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde said in her essay entitled "Open about corruption".

According to Christine Lagarde, as the TASS reported, in 2015 for bribery globally were used between USD 1.5 and 2 billion.

"Corruption, including bribery is a problem that occurs in both, developing countries and in the developed countries, Lagarde says in the essay, which on Wednesday was published by the press service of the International Monetary Fund in the wake of an international meeting on combating corruption which will be held on Thursday in London.

Christine Lagarde said that for the writing of this essay she was inspired by the "actuality of this delicate issue".

"In a recent global survey the corruption is highlighted as the topic for which the public debates even more often than the problems of the poverty and unemployment, Lagarde says.

She considered that poverty and unemployment can be regarded as signs of "chronic corruption" so the public interest in this issue is completely justified.
