Albania's opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha stated that it will be difficult to conduct parliamentary elections next year, because it is necessary to form a technical government first.

The existing conditions lead to a technical government, because Edi Rama has shown incapable to ensure free and fair elections. Without electoral reform, nothing will function normally in the country, Basha said after the meeting with his party's parliamentary group.

He said that the parliamentary group finalized the debate on electoral reform and decided to propose establishment of an ad hoc committee on electoral reform, control of party funding and criminal donations to political parties.

"Moreover, we will propose freedom of media and equal airtime and other European parameters for free and fair elections," Basha added.

He again accused the current government led by Prime Minister Edi Rama for corruption, crime and deepening poverty in the country, promising that the Democratic Party will provide better days for the country and its citizens.
