The police has detained one person from Skopje's Tanusevci village for illegally transporting about 30 migrants, the Interior Ministry reports.
On Sunday, at about 11:00 pm, police officers noticed a Mercedes freight vehicle near the tunnels of the Demir Kapija-Veles highway, operated by Lj.M. (23), which did not stop upon a signal by the police.
After a few kilometers, Lj.M. stopped the vehicle and tried to escape along with his co-passenger R.J. (20). The police managed to capture Lj.M., but R.S. managed to escape.
After the vehicle was searched, about 30 migrants from Afghanistan, Iraq and Congo were discovered in the vehicle's freight wagon. The migrants were detained and taken to the police station in Negotino.
The police are undertaking all necessary measures for finding the co-passenger R.J. and clearing up the case.
