The companies from the processing, metal and electric industries are feeling the impact of the current crisis the most, as many foreign partners have cancelled the previously agreed visiting dates whose aim was to examine the capacities and the possibilities for concluding contracts.

According to the head of the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, Biljana Peeva-Gjuric, these cancellations or postponements of the visits come from representatives of the European Union and the Middle East.

"In the next period, this situation will have a negative impact on the greater engagement of the capacities, the production increase, the employment and exchange in the industry," Peeva-Gjuric said, presenting the results of the latest survey, carried out by the economic chamber in mid-April this year.

She noted the visits and the cooperation contracts could also be cancelled in the pharmaceutic industry, as well as the agriculture and the food processing industries.

The current events in Macedonia for the time being, do not affect the construction sector, which has been the main bearer of an important part of the industrial activities in the country, Peeva-Gjuric said.

Additionally, a burden for the domestic companies is the disloyal competition that has occurred as a consequence of the enlarged import of EU products, due to the embargo introduced by the Russian Federation.

The Economic Chamber assesses that the fact that a large number of Macedonia companies that have long-term strategic partners and safe market shares abroad have not announced any possibilities regarding breaking up the previously signed contracts or reducing their number, is encouraging.

"The greatest concern arises because of the cancelled and previously announced visits of potential foreign partners with whom business deals have been agreed for a longer period of time," Peeva-Gjuric explained.

The firms that were included in the surveys expressed concerns in terms of certain state institutions' functioning that are important and affect the work of the economic entities. They have complained about untimely processing of regular administrative procedures.
