A new library named after the renowned Macedonian archeologist and scholar in medieval archeology in Macedonia, Kiril Trajkovski, was opened Thursday in the Archeological Museum in Skopje.
The library features 3,500 printed books and 30,000 digitalized books and publications in Macedonian, English, Bulgarian, German, French, Serbian and Croatian. The UK-based Kiril Trajkovski Foundation is the donor of the library, which houses Kiril Trajkovski’ personal collection of rare books, maps, photographs, notes, and publications.
Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said the library would allow scientists, scholars and the public in Macedonia in general to expand their knowledge about the heritage of the region and beyond.
“The digitalized library collection offers an abundance of papers from Europe and Balkan countries from several areas, including archeology, history of art, museology, conservation, anthropology, epigraphy, numismatics and architecture from prehistoric times until present day with an accent on antiquity and the byzantine period”, Kanceska-Milevskavstated .
Archeology Museum of Macedonia and the Kiril Trajkovski Foundation on 4 June 2013 signed a memorandum of cooperation, which amongst other things regulated the opening of the library inaugurated today in the Museum.
Jovan Donev, Macedonian Ambassador to the UK, said the two countries in the past 25 years had been fostering excellent political relations and urged cooperation to be increased in relation to business, education, science, culture, sports, etc.
Kiril Waite, a member of the foundation and Kiril Trajkovski’s nephew, thanked all institutions and friends from Bulgaria, Serbia and United Kingdom who had donated and supported the library in Skopje.
